Start from your image

Stays in your browser

Your file is opened locally. It is uploaded only if you save a cloud project or run an AI tool.

Free to use

A free editor, not a trial

The canvas, layer tools, adjustments, templates and exports are free. You do not need an account or a card to start. AI is the part that uses credits — it is metered, never advertised as unlimited.

  • Canvas, layers, masks, groups and blend modes
  • Crop, colour, blur, sharpen and adjustment layers
  • Built-in templates with editable text and shapes
  • Export PNG, JPG, WebP, layered PSD or .ais

Core editing

Everything you need to finish the image

A real canvas and a real layer stack, with the everyday tools laid out where you expect them.

Layer-based editing

Stack images, text, shapes, masks, groups and adjustment layers. Every element stays editable.

Precise adjustments

Crop, resize, rotate, flip, filter, blur, sharpen and fine-tune colour without flattening your work.

AI that returns layers

Subject cutouts, object removal, upscaling and enhancement arrive as new layers you can keep refining.

Background removal

Remove a background with the built-in U²-Net tool, then mask or retouch the result on its own layer.

Templates for real formats

Start from social, poster, product and screen sizes with editable text and image placeholders.

Exports that fit the job

Export PNG, JPG or WebP, or hand off a layered PSD or a Pixopea project file.

Layers

Edit the structure, not just the pixels

Images, text, shapes and adjustments live on separate layers. Group them, mask them, clip them and change the blend later. A PSD stays a PSD when you bring it in or send it out.

  • Image, text, shape and adjustment layers
  • Groups, clipping and layer masks
  • Blend modes and opacity
  • Layered PSD import and export

AI tools

AI that hands back editable layers

Results arrive as layers, so you can mask, blend and refine them. AI requires an account and uses credits; connected generative providers cost more and are off until an administrator enables them.

Background removal

1 credit · free account

The built-in U²-Net model cuts the subject out on a new layer. Refine the mask by hand when the edge needs work.

Select subject or object

No credit charge

Create a selection from the main subject or a named object, then mask, cut or adjust only that region.

Object removal and upscaling

1 credit per run

Clean up a distraction, enlarge a small layer, or run a local enhancement pass without leaving the canvas.

Generative tools, when connected

More credits · provider charges

Generate, fill, expand and outpaint only work after an administrator enables an external provider with credentials.

Cutout layer

Background removal

A cutout you can still fix

Send the current layer to the built-in U²-Net model. The subject comes back on its own layer, with the original underneath. Refine the edge with a mask, place the subject on a new background and export.

  1. 1 Open the image and select the layer.
  2. 2 Run background removal — it costs one credit.
  3. 3 Mask, retouch and export or reuse in a template.

Requires a signed-in account, a running AI service and one credit per run. Fine hair, glass and low-contrast edges usually need mask refinement.

Design & templates

Start from a size that already fits

Begin with social posts, stories, thumbnails, posters, A4 or screen sizes. Templates use editable text, shapes and image placeholders — no stock-photo licence attached, because you bring the images.

Formats

Open the file you have, export the file you need

Formats are checked in the browser before the editor opens, and exports are generated from the full-resolution document. Animated GIF is not supported.

Open

  • PNG
  • JPEG / JPG
  • WebP
  • SVG
  • PSD
  • .ais project

Animated GIF is rejected with a clear message instead of opening a broken document.

Export

  • PNG
  • JPG
  • WebP
  • Layered PSD
  • .ais project

PSD import carries common layers; some PSD features are reported as approximated or not carried over.

How it works

From file to finished image

You can be editing in a few seconds. The first step is the upload area at the top of this page.

  1. 1

    Choose an image

Drop a file on this page or browse your device. Pixopea checks the format in the browser and opens the editor with it loaded.

  2. 2

Edit on a real layer stack

Adjust, mask, add text and shapes, or bring in a template. Nothing is flattened until you choose to export.

  3. 3

    Export or continue later

Download PNG, JPG, WebP, layered PSD or .ais. Sign in when you want cloud saves, version history or AI tools.

Questions, answered

Is Pixopea really free?

The core editor is free. Open /try and edit, use layers and export without an account. A free account adds cloud saves and 50 AI credits each month; paid plans and credit packs are optional.

Do I need an account to start editing?

No. Choose an image on this page and it opens in the free browser editor. Sign in when you want cloud projects, version history or AI tools.

Is my image uploaded when I start from the homepage?

No. The homepage checks the file in your browser and hands it to the editor locally. Images go to the server only when you save a cloud project, upload an asset or run an AI job.

Which file formats can I open?

PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG, PSD and Pixopea .ais project files. Animated GIF is not supported. Export as PNG, JPG, WebP, layered PSD or .ais.

Are AI tools free and unlimited?

No. AI uses credits. A free account receives 50 credits per month with daily and monthly limits. Built-in jobs cost 0–1 credit; generative models cost more and work only when an administrator has connected a provider.

Where are my projects stored?

Guest drafts stay in this browser’s IndexedDB. Signed-in projects are stored on the Pixopea server with your account, within your plan’s project and storage limits.

Can I edit on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Pixopea has a touch layout with pinch zoom, two-finger pan and mobile panels. A larger screen is more comfortable for detailed masking.
